SARASOTA - A five-month drug operation by narcotics detectives has resulted in the arrest of 39 subjects in the Newtown area, says the Sarasota Police Department. Nicknamed Operation Cracked Sidewalk by police, the effort targeting street-level drug dealers started at the end of January, with coordination between the Narcotics Unit and the Street Crimes Unit. Police say they selected the target area based on data of complaints about narcotics sales and arrests. Most suspects were arrested during a warrant sweep conducted on June 11, 14 and 18.
